On yet another scorching summers day, it was an optimistic side that turned out for the return match against Twinstead, with Bures already on a roll of 2 wins in a row. Despite an unpromising start, with the captain getting lost on his way to the ground and Cracey stepping in for the toss and losing it, surprisingly Bures found themselves put into bat first (the reason soon became evident). The Bures new opening partnership of Cracey and Charlie (Erith senior) got off to a brisk start but
once Charlie had lost interest and Chris Ayers had been triggered by Mark Brewer, it was left to the younger Erith George and Cracey to take things forward. Most of the mid-order batsmen scored some runs, notably Charlie R-S hitting his first 6 for the club off his second ball and Tozer, once again, hitting some lusty blows. The innings came to a rather tame end with Bures managing to amass 229 off only 32 overs (oh – and Cracey scored a few…..). The reply from Twinstead was never going to come close to that total and especially once Tozer and Wright had destroyed the top order. The hightlight of the innings was the combined attack of Witt
and Pagey – who terrified the wicket keeper but rarely caused the wickets any concern. Having finally prised the ball out of the captain's hands (still determined to be top wicket taker of the year). the Crace boys finished off the innings with Jack bowling a great slower ball dismissing their best batsman and one of only two to reach double figures. As ever, Twinstead were very friendly and welcomed us all, making it a great day's cricket. The Lamarsh Lion was an excellent pitstop on the way home, where 118 man could talk you through his innings - if you could bear it!
