Match Report - Earls Colne & Bures vs. Abberton 18/07/06

Abberton 145 all out

(James Durkin 10-0-32-3)

Earls Colne & Bures 146 for 4

(Adrian Wigan 64 no, Lewis Chambers 47 no)

Earls Colne & Bures won by 6 wickets

A great victory against expectations. With only 10 players and having lost the toss and been invited to field, prospects were poor; a perfect wicket, lightning outfield and sad to say an under-strength E C & Bures bowling attack. An excellent start by Durkin assisted by a spectacular catch in the slips from Himesh and we were underway. Further good catches from McKenna and Chambers L. and Abberton were 3 down. Patrick bowled well at the other end and change bowlers were employed from over 15. Into the attack Wiggy and Gibbo, both bowling better than even the most optimistic could expect and returning figures of 2 for 36 and 31 respectively. McKenna and Durkin returned to the attack and our fielding session was concluded by Himesh and Shoulders in  excellent style. Abberton were all out in the 45th over for a poor 145.

A good tea was provided the tea ladies obviously having a superior attention span to the Abberton batsmen! Our innings opened with Shoulders and Himesh with the former perishing after 4 overs having put 20 on the board, sadly Himesh perished to a wild shot for just one. Enter Wiggy and Phil Frances, immediately  exit stage right Phil following  a wipe across the line we are all keen to forget. 120 required and Messrs Wigan and Chambers L. eased their way to the winning line inside 24 overs. The bar arrangements looked good but failed to deliver. After a rank pint of eurofizz, all repaired to the Eight Bells for some well deserved re-hydration.
