Home

Following a hard fought victory over Wickham St. Paul on a slow pitch the Bures boys returned to their home ground to take on local rivals Leavenheath who turned up with their full compliment of players including Tris Skinner. Bures won the toss and decided to bat, once again opening with the two old gits Messrs C Erith and C Crace. Remarkably for once they both decided to stay in for a while, recording their first opening stand of 100 and with both reaching the 50’s (neither of which contained a 6 surprisingly). Three wickets then fell in quick succession and for a while it looked as if the score would not be good enough to beat a strong Leavenheath batting line up. However, enter stage Matt Godbold, on debut, and the incorrigible Shenners, who both thought differently. They provided an incredible crowd-pleasing show, with an unbeaten partnership of 145 in very few overs, and Shenners hitting five 6’s in his 88 not out. As the half time curtain closed Bures were on 277 for 4 after their 35 overs and they were starting to feel confident of a victory. This indeed turned out to be the case as Leavenheath took to the stage and despite several of their batsmen hitting good shots none of them managed to exceed 25 runs. Patrick, as ever, bowled tidily and tightly taking 2 wickets, leaving the finale to Captain Carl and Jimmy Lee, who finished off Leavenheath's performance with 3 and 2 wickets respectively. With the Bures winning streak safely secured and a standing ovation from the audience, the players “retired” to the ‘Shoes’ where plenty of beers were consumed to celebrate in true lovey style!
