Twinstead Cricket Club won by 5 wickets
Recap
Bures welcomed Twinstead on a warm (and dry!) Saturday afternoon, unfortunately missing a few players due to some drop outs during the week, it was agreed that we’d play a T20 with Twinstead kindly providing us with 3 of their younger plays when we were bowling.
Captain Luke for a change lost the toss, and Bures were asked to have a bat. Tom & Ollie (on debut) strode out to bat with Ollie unfortunately being deceived by a good slower ball early on and bowled for a duck. Tom & Neil were solid, but finding it difficult to get the ball away due to some accurate bowling and very good fielding. When Neil was bowled by a ball that kept low for 19, quick runs were needed to get the score up and around 100. Tom scored his best score for Bures of 18, Luke & Aaron put on a quick 42 together with 9 boundaries between them, Bures finished on 106. Certainly below par, but on a pitch not easy to score on, it was something to defend.
A quick bite to eat, and a drink or two and Twinstead set about their innings. A good start for Bures, saw 2 wickets fall in the first 3 overs, Luke & Matt S bowling both openers. Matt only going for 5 runs in his 4 overs, an excellent spell. Although opportunities were created, Bures were unable to get out Andy Ward who came in at 3 and finished on 54 not out. Aaron did take 2 wickets later on, 1 of them a cunning ball dragged half down the pitch with Matt expertly snaffled, and Luke another 1 but an outside edge halfway through the 20th over gave Twinstead the winning runs.
A big thank you to Twinstead for providing us with some extra bodies in the field, and a good effort from Bures for taking it to the final over.
A huge match next up, Leavenheath, with Bures desperate to regain the Chris Ayers Memorial Trophy.
