Recap
A rather more overcast day greeted our latest opponents this week, and Luke on his debut as captain maintained the 100% loss of toss this season. Fortunately for us CWCCC decided to put us in to bat, which meant that the majority of us were able to stay reasonably warm and dry (at least on the outside).
James E decided that he was too injured to open with his brother Charlie, so Orlando went in instead, only to return (sensibly) very shortly having chipped one to midwicket. Charlie decided conditions were not for him either, and it was left to the ever-belligerent Tozer, and a resurgent Chris A, to rebuild. After a slow start, momentum began to grow, and although Rupert was out for a well-struck 21, Chris and Paul G, who was fresh from a fine 0 in the first match, continued on their merry way. Chris A, with a vintage innings including his trademark cuts and slog sweeps, eventually fell for 63, and Paul G made an excellent maiden 50, and carried his bat as a bonus. Luke, Giles H and the Chairman all pitched in with some wild, and largely ineffective, hoiks, and Bures ended with a formidable 193 off 30 overs.
After tea conditions started to brighten up a little and we certainly had the more pleasant part of the day to field in. Giles H bowled his first 3 overs of the season without conceding a run, and Rupert T the other end was also very accurate, and it quickly became evident that Chappel did not have the fire power to chase down such a score. Luke cleverly manipulated the vast array of bowling talent so that everyone was able to have a go, and despite some lusty blows from Johnson towards the end of their innings, Bures were always in control, keeping Chappel to 114 in their allotted overs, with wickets spread fairly evenly between the bowlers.
So, another fine win was recorded, and the Horseshoes were the hosts for a very happy team, looking forward to more victories to come.
