Bures C.C. v Twinstead C.C.

vs

Bures Cricket Club won by 132 runs

Recap

A lovely summers afternoon welcomed Bures to the picturesque venue of Twinstead Cricket Club, Bures buoyed by the return of a couple of Bures legends back into the side after numerous years in Will Amos & Eddie Erith, and a club favourite in Rupert Melville-Ross in his second game of the season won the toss (I know!) and elected to bat.

Orlando & Steve went out to get proceedings underway, and although played some nice shots and looked fairly solid were both dismissed by Ambrose for 14 & 5 respectively. This bought David to the crease who appeared to find timing the ball on a very slow pitch quite straightforward, dispatching his first ball to the fence and eventually retiring on an entertaining and elegant 53 not out. Contributions and big shots followed consistently in the innings Will Amos (19), Luke Terry (52 ret), Neil (51 ret) and Eddie (25 not out) with Bures setting a very competitive 250 for 6 in their 35 overs, with no fewer than 11 6’s and 24 4’s struck. It was a typical Bures-ball knock.

A wonderful tea followed, with a few drinks (each) consumed from the Twinstead bar and eventually we had to make our way back to the middle to begin the 2nd innings. Rupert M-R and & Giles G opened the bowling with unerring accuracy looking like they may take a wicket with almost every ball, and the scorecard reflected that after 7 overs Twinstead were 17-4, Rupert (3 wickets) Giles (1) courtesy of an incredible catch behind the stumps by Neil in only his second Bures outing, initially wrong footed and then taking a stunning one handed grab. Some big swings followed with Stocker who had impressed with the ball earlier in the day, hitting a quick fire 40 before being bowled by Luke.

Rupert was bought back into the action to put an end to all this run scoring nonsense fairly quickly taking the wickets of their number 9 & 10 respectively, and Eddie Erith rolled back with the years with the final over of the game culminating with an excellent catch by Steve T in the outfield to give Bures the win by 132 runs.

An excellent day, with some outstanding individual performances, Rupert’s 5-9 from 5 overs was outstanding, Neil’s brilliant 51 and faultless keeping and David’s effortless 53 to name but a few.

4 in a row for the mighty Bures and the beer in the Twinstead bar tasted all the better for it.
