A beautiful summers afternoon welcomed Bures to Wickham St. Paul, the toss was actually won by Luke and the decision was made that Bures would have a bat.

Adam & Will went out to open the innings, and looked solid, on a very slow wicket scoring was never going to easy, despite the short boundaries. When Adam was dismissed for 8,  there was a flurry of wickets, no new batsman scoring over 4 whilst Will was almost single handedly keeping Bures scoring. When he was trapped LBW by a ball that barely got above his ankle for 37, it was going to be a real battle to reach 100. Nevertheless, out strode father and son combo of Matt & Ollie Jervois, who managed to score some runs from the last couple of overs, taking us to 110. Certainly below par, but at least something to bowl at.

Quicker turnaround than usual, as WSP unfortunately no longer provide teas, and Bures got into their business early on, with the opening bowling pairing of Luke & Chris bowling well, and offering very little, both clean bowling an opener apiece. Chris’ just conceding 4 runs from his 4 overs. Giles, in his first match of the season, bowled superbly taking a further two wickets.

Unfortunately for Bures, their number 3 batsman who turns out for Halstead, found scoring runs quite straightforward and despite changes of fields and bowlers, never really looked in any difficulty and hit the winning runs with 7 overs to spare, finishing on 52*

Another case of Bures just not scoring enough runs this season, and with another defeat, here’s to hoping that there will be a strong finish to the season which has been quite disappointing (results wise)

One advantage of the no teas, was that we could retire to the local pub earlier than usual and enjoy the early evening sunshine with a pint or three!
